Trial Hears Woman Raised Alarm About Husband Before Murder
Trial: Woman Raised Alarm About Husband Before Murder

A murder trial has heard that a woman worried about her husband's mental health days before he killed her. Michael Davies, 57, is on trial at Newport Crown Court for the murder of his wife, Tracey Davies, 48. He has admitted strangling her but denies murder, instead pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Background of the Case

Tracey Davies' body was discovered on April 18, 2025, at a property on Bryn Terrace, Cefn Cribwr, near Bridgend. Michael Davies was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder. He has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denies murder, citing mental health struggles.

Neighbor's Testimony

Neighbor Jackie James recalled seeing Davies the Sunday before Tracey's death. She noted he looked different and unkempt, which was unusual for him. On the day of the killing, she heard a loud 'double thud' from the house around 3pm but no other disturbances.

Forensic Evidence

Forensic scientist Suzanne Winter described blood found at the scene. There was heavy blood staining on the right side of the mattress, extending to a pillow, and a blood-stained knife nearby. DNA analysis matched the blood to Michael Davies. Winter stated that Davies was likely on the right side of the bed while bleeding heavily, and actions causing blood to become airborne had occurred.

Messages Show Concern

The court heard messages between Tracey Davies and Davies' friend Glen Clatworthy. Tracey asked Clatworthy to contact her husband because she was worried about him. Clatworthy tried to arrange a meeting, but Davies did not admit he was home from Abu Dhabi.

The trial continues at Newport Crown Court.
