Three Men to Stand Trial Over Alleged Brighton Beach Rape

Three men accused of a serious sexual assault on Brighton beach are scheduled to face a jury trial next March. The case, which has deeply affected the local community, progressed through the legal system following a hearing at Lewes Crown Court.

Defendants and Charges

The accused are Abdulla Ahmadi, 25, an Iranian national from Crewe; Karin Al-Danasurt, 20; and Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, both Egyptian nationals from Horsham. Sussex Police confirmed that each man has been charged with two counts of rape in connection with the incident.

According to police reports, officers were called to the lower esplanade in Brighton at approximately 5am on October 4 after receiving a report that a woman had been raped. The victim is currently receiving support from specially trained officers.

Court Proceedings and Adjournment

A recent plea hearing was unexpectedly adjourned. This delay was necessitated because no Kurdish interpreter was available for defendant Abdulla Ahmadi. The court has now set a date for the full trial to commence in March.

Detective Superintendent Andy Harbour of Sussex Police addressed public concern, stating: "I understand how distressing this incident will be for the community and our dedicated partnership operations to protect women and girls will continue in earnest."

This remains a developing story, and further details are expected as the trial date approaches.
