A rapist thug linked to one of Glasgow's most violent gangs has pleaded with race-hate killer Imran “Baldy” Shahid to provide cash for his protection behind bars.
Ameer Arshad, 31, was a member of Baldy's 'infamous Shielders' crime clan from the Pollokshields area before he was jailed last year for the brutal rapes of a young man and a woman in separate attacks.
A source told the Record that Arshad is now being terrorised by other inmates, but Baldy has refused to supply money to keep him safe.
“Arshad was once a well-connected guy in the south-side, with lots of people who always looked after him,” the source said.
“Now he's banged up with other Barlinnie beasts who are threatening him, so he's asked Baldy and his old crew to pay folk on the inside £10k to give him security.”
The source added that Baldy, currently serving a 25-year sentence for the murder of 15-year-old schoolboy Kriss Donald, is disgusted by Arshad's sex crimes and rejected his pleas for help.
“Baldy still runs the Shielders gang from his jail cell, so this request had to go through him, but he wasn't having any of it and won't pay up under any circumstances,” the source continued.
Arshad raped a 17-year-old boy in a lane in Glasgow in July 2022. In July 2023, he repeatedly raped an intoxicated woman at the St Enoch Centre in the city. He was sentenced to ten years after being found guilty at a trial in the High Court in Edinburgh and placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.
The source said helping predators goes against the Shielders' code of conduct and added that it is more likely they will now attack Arshad in jail.
“Arshad knows the score, this is an honour thing so he will be completely shunned for the rest of his life. The Shielders and Baldy have a lot of power in the prisons so they are more likely to pay out money for someone to slash him in the jail rather than help him. He has disgraced his community with all of this so will have to pay the penalty,” the source continued.
Five men from Baldy's gang abducted teenager Kriss Donald on Kenmure Street in Glasgow's southside on March 15, 2004, in an apparent revenge attack. It came after the ringleader and his men were involved in an earlier nightclub altercation with a group of white men, later targeting Kriss as an example of a 'white boy from the area' despite him having no involvement in the nightclub incident. They took Kriss to the Clyde Walkway, held his arms back and stabbed him 13 times before dousing him in petrol and setting him on fire as he bled to death.
Baldy has been held at various prisons including Inverness, Peterhead, Perth, Kilmarnock and Saughton. In 2011, it was reported he was slashed from his ear to his backside in Saughton after it was claimed he was trying to extort cash out of young cons. He was attacked again by convicted murderer William Crawford at the gym in Kilmarnock jail in 2013 and left for dead after being smashed over the skull with a 15kg weight. Baldy is believed to have slashed his own throat in 2022 in Peterhead and was rushed to hospital, but the extent of his injuries and circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown.
