Yostin Andres Mosquera, 35, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 42 years at Woolwich Crown Court for murdering two men in west London. Mosquera killed partners Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, before disposing of their remains in suitcases close to Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Brutal killings and disposal
Mosquera decapitated and dismembered the couple, froze portions of their remains and transported the rest in suitcases to the bridge, jurors heard. He inflicted multiple stab wounds on Mr Alfonso, who suffered injuries to his torso, face and neck, while Mr Longworth was struck with a hammer to the rear of his skull, causing it to shatter.
Mr Alfonso was fatally stabbed during a recorded sex session, with video footage shown in court capturing Mosquera singing and dancing after the attack. In the footage, Mosquera was captured asking Mr Alfonso "you likey?" after stabbing him, as the victim "becomes limp", according to the BBC.
Additional charges and sentencing
Mosquera was also handed a 16-month sentence for possessing "horrifying" indecent images and videos of children. He pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children. Investigators discovered at least 1,500 category A indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs, including moving images of children.
Mr Justice Bennathan sentenced Mosquera to 16 months for the indecent images offences. The judge ruled that all custodial sentences handed down for the offences would run concurrently.
Investigation and trial
The murders emerged when the luggage was found on the bridge at 11.30pm on 10 July 2024. One suitcase carried a label connecting it to an address in Scotts Road, where police officers later discovered the heads in the freezer. Mosquera's plan was to hurl the suitcases from the bridge to dispose of the remains following the "calculated" and "premeditated" killings, prosecutor Deanna Heer KC told the court.
Mosquera admitted killing Mr Alfonso but claimed it amounted to manslaughter owing to loss of control. He denied murdering both men and insisted that Mr Alfonso had killed Mr Longworth. The jury deliberated for five hours and three minutes before returning a unanimous guilty verdict against Mosquera on all charges.
