Merseyside Police are investigating after a man was shot inside a café on Lodge Lane on Friday evening. The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was chased along the road and into Bala Bs Soul Food Kitchen before being shot. He sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and is receiving treatment at hospital.
Incident Details
Armed police were called to the café around 5pm on Friday, June 19, following reports of a shooting. Lodge Lane was closed between Bentley Road and Seacole Close as officers cordoned off the area. An air ambulance helicopter was seen hovering overhead, and North West Ambulance Service attended. A woman who works nearby told the Liverpool Echo she heard three bangs before armed police arrived.
Initially, police stated no one was injured. However, after searching the premises, officers found several gun casings inside the café. In an update at 11pm on Friday, they confirmed a man had been shot. The shooting is the second in the area this month.
Police Response
On Saturday morning, the scene remained cordoned off with two Matrix vans, a patrol car, and an unmarked police car outside. Officers were working inside the building while detectives conducted door-to-door enquiries. A Section 60 order has been implemented, granting officers extra stop-and-search powers in a wide area including Upper Parliament Street, Smithdown Road, Greenbank Road, North Mossley Hill Road, Queens Drive, Aigburth Vale, Carnatic Road, Victoria Road, Ashfield Road, Aigburth Road, Park Road, Park Place, and St James Place.
Police are appealing for public information. No arrests have been reported at this time.
