Man charged with attempted murder after police officer hit by car

A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a car. A Cleveland Police officer was struck by a car in Horden, County Durham, whilst carrying out enquiries in the area on Monday.

Officer injured and suspect arrested

He sustained injuries to his arm and leg and was taken to University Hospital North Durham for treatment. A man was arrested following a short police pursuit, which ended in the Trimdon Grange area.

Court appearance and charges

Jonathan Kenneth Collingwood appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court, County Durham, on Wednesday. The 29-year-old, of St Bees Walk, Hartlepool, was charged with attempted murder and dangerous driving.

No pleas were entered during the hearing and his case was sent to Durham Crown Court. Collingwood will appear at the court in Durham for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Wednesday, September 16. He has been remanded in custody until that hearing.
