A man has been arrested in connection with an incident from 2017 in which a woman was allegedly pushed into the path of a double-decker bus on Putney Bridge in London.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that on Monday, June 15, a 44-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody for questioning.
The incident occurred on May 5, 2017, when a jogger was captured on CCTV footage running along Putney Bridge. The footage showed the individual passing one man before appearing to push a woman off the kerb and into the path of an oncoming bus.
Bus driver Oliver Salbris managed to swerve the vehicle to avoid hitting the woman. Speaking to the Sunday Times at the time, he said: "If I hadn't swerved, I would have smashed her head. It was reflex. The consequences would have been terrible for her – and for me."
Approximately 15 minutes after the push, the jogger was seen returning across the bridge. The victim attempted to speak to him, but he ignored her and continued on his way.
Detectives initially identified more than 50 people of interest in their investigation before closing the probe in 2018, stating that all lines of inquiry had been exhausted.
