Two people have been murdered within 48 hours in a weekend of bloodshed in London, marking the latest in a series of violent incidents across the city. The victims include a 17-year-old boy and a man in his 30s.
Teenager Killed in Battersea
In the early hours of Saturday morning, police were called to reports of an altercation near Lavender Hill in Battersea. There, they found 17-year-old Jamal Coombes with stab wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr Coombes died at the scene. A 14-year-old boy has since been charged with his murder.
Three other 15-year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Two, a boy and a girl, have been released on bail, while another boy remains in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie from the Metropolitan Police said: "Our thoughts remain firmly with Jamal's loved ones following his tragic death. I understand the impact this incident has had on the local community. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to speak with one of our officers on patrol in the area this week."
He urged witnesses to come forward, particularly those who saw a group of males running near Glycena Road, Acanthus Road, or Poutney Road between 3:30am and 5am on Saturday morning.
Second Murder in Crystal Palace
A second murder investigation was launched on Sunday after a man in his 30s was found with stab wounds in Crystal Palace. Police were called to Westow Hill at around 3:39am on Sunday morning following reports of a stabbing. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. He was later arrested on suspicion of murder.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting CAD1302/21JUN26.
Rising Violence in London
The two murders are the latest in a spate of violence across London in June. Earlier this month, two others were murdered and seven were stabbed within 72 hours. This included the death of a 19-year-old woman in Finchley, who died after gunshots were heard in the area.
