Two men have been jailed for a brutal attack in which a man was stabbed and his flat set on fire in Waterloo, Liverpool. The victim suffered life-changing injuries, including extensive burns and stab wounds to his head and body, during the incident on 9 November 2018.
At Liverpool Crown Court, Edward Crompton, 25, of Litherland, was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Stanley McBrien, 24, of Crosby, who had previously admitted attempted murder, was jailed for 12 years.
Detective Inspector Gary Stratton of Merseyside Police described the attack as 'totally unjustified' and said it 'could have had fatal consequences'. He praised the victim's neighbours, who extinguished the flames and called paramedics to the flat on Willoughby Road.
Crompton's partner, Kayleigh Brett, 27, of Oakdale Road, Waterloo, was sentenced to 22 months in prison, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to assisting an offender. She had sheltered Crompton following the attack.
