The Liberal Democrats have suspended MP Cameron Thomas amid an ongoing police investigation. The party confirmed the decision on Thursday, stating that the whip has been withdrawn pending the outcome of the probe.
Cameron Thomas, who has represented Tewkesbury since the 2024 General Election, was reportedly detained by Gloucestershire Police on Wednesday night. A party spokesperson said: 'Cameron Thomas MP has had the party whip suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation. We are unable to comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.'
It is understood that Mr Thomas's party membership has also been suspended. The former RAF officer entered Parliament in 2024 and has served as the MP for Tewkesbury since then.
The suspension comes as a significant development for the Liberal Democrats, who have been gaining ground in recent by-elections. The party has not provided further details about the nature of the police investigation.
