A three-year-old boy who was thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo in Cambridgeshire is now in a stable condition in hospital, police have confirmed.
Incident Overview
The toddler suffered serious injuries after entering the crocodile pen at the zoo near Huntingdon on Thursday. Zoo staff rescued him before emergency services arrived. He was treated at the scene and taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson stated: "The boy is no longer critical and is in a stable condition in hospital."
Investigation and Arrest
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Police believe he had no previous connection with the child. He has been released on bail until September 18 and was deemed unfit for interview.
According to BBC reports, the suspect is believed to have learning disabilities and had been at the attraction with carers. Eyewitnesses reported hearing screams and seeing an air ambulance at the scene.
Zoo Response and Ongoing Inquiry
Officers confirmed the crocodiles involved have not been seized or destroyed as the investigation continues. The incident occurred at around 1.30pm on Thursday at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a zoo and farm attraction.
