Boy, 12, dies after being struck by car in Essex village

A murder investigation has been launched after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a car in an Essex village and later died in hospital. Police were called to Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood, at around 5:40 pm on Sunday following reports of a collision. Officers found the boy with severe injuries, and he was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to his wounds.

Arrests Made

A 15-year-old boy and a 43-year-old man, both from the Pilgrims Hatch area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. Essex Police have confirmed that the investigation is in its early stages and that they are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim's family and urged residents to check their CCTV footage. 'Our first thoughts are with the family of the boy who has tragically died,' she said. 'This is an evolving investigation with complexities, and we cannot rush it.
