A three-month-old baby girl who died while camping with family in Staffordshire has been named by police as Lacey May Oxford. She was found unresponsive in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, on Saturday, September 5.
Emergency services responded to reports of a child in cardiac arrest, and Lacey was pronounced dead at the scene. Staffordshire Police described her death as "unexplained" and previously called the incident "isolated".
Arrests and bail
Four people were arrested last month on suspicion of murder. They remain on conditional bail as inquiries continue, police said. The arrests involved a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from south Staffordshire, a 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton, and an 18-year-old man from Walsall.
The discovery was made in a "hidden away" area within the Wyrley and Essington Branch Canal Local Nature Reserve. Two tents were reportedly pitched near a fishing lake, according to the Mirror.
Police statement
Police previously urged people not to share "unconfirmed and speculative" claims about the case online. In a statement, Staffordshire Police said: "We were called by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service, who were responding to a report of a child in cardiac arrest, at 8.45am on Saturday 5 September.
"Sadly, Lacey was later pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have been working hard to investigate the circumstances of Lacey’s death, which is still being treated as unexplained.
"All four people who were previously arrested in connection with the investigation remain on conditional police bail at this time. Our enquiries are continuing and we will continue to provide updates on this investigation when we are able to do so."
