A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Northumberland where a car allegedly "repeatedly rammed" a pedestrian on a pavement.
Incident Details
Police were called to reports of a serious assault on Upper Barresdale in Alnwick at approximately 6:40 PM on Friday. According to authorities, a black Audi A3 left the roadway and was repeatedly driven at a pedestrian before striking him and fleeing the scene.
Emergency services attended, and the victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries, where he remains.
Investigation and Arrest
Northumbria Police immediately launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in police custody.
Detective Sergeant Adele Catlow stated: "This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in a man sustaining significant injuries. The investigation is at an early stage, but we do believe that those involved are known to each other."
Appeal for Witnesses
Officers are continuing enquiries in the area and offering reassurance to the public. Anyone who witnessed the incident or was traveling in the area at the time is urged to come forward.
DS Catlow added: "We are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or was travelling in the area at the time. Please come forward – the information you are able to provide might just prove crucial in helping to establish the circumstances behind this report."
