German investigators are searching for a video camera believed to contain images of missing Madeleine McCann and other potential victims, according to reports. The camera is thought to be linked to convicted German rapist Christian Brückner, the prime suspect in Madeleine's disappearance.
Portuguese police spent three days searching the Arade dam and reservoir, about 30 miles from Praia da Luz where Madeleine was last seen in 2007. The search was prompted by tips given to German prosecutors regarding Brückner, who is currently serving a prison sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in the same Algarve region.
Two key witnesses, Manfred Seyferth and Helge Busching, told German investigators they broke into Brückner's home while he was in jail and found a gun and a video camera. They claimed footage on the camera showed Brückner torturing and raping an American woman and a girl aged about 15. Brückner has denied the allegations, suggesting the men are seeking to set him up due to a failed drug deal.
Investigators previously found photos and videos of Brückner at the reservoir, but the latest search focused on a 160 sq ft area used as a picnic spot by partygoers and drug users, where Brückner allegedly sold cannabis. The search ended with the discovery of a 'relevant clue', and collected material will be handed over to German authorities for analysis.
German prosecutor Christian Wolters stated that the new information did not come from Brückner, and they have no confession or indication from the suspect of where to search. Madeleine was three years old when she vanished from her family's holiday apartment while her parents dined with friends nearby.
