Three sisters from London who drowned off Brighton beach took their own lives after visiting the lake where their mother died 16 years earlier, an inquest has found.
Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, from Uxbridge, travelled from their home to Birmingham the day before they entered the water.
Visit to mother's grave
Their mother, Janice Adetoro, took her own life at Brookvale Lake in Birmingham in 2010.
The women took an Uber to the city and visited their mother's grave on May 11, 2026, according to The Sun.
They were driven back to London the next day after being picked up close to the lake. The inquest heard on Thursday that the sisters travelled to Brighton that evening, arriving at 10.20pm.
Rough sea conditions
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore told the inquest "the sea was particularly rough" that day.
He said: "On Wednesday, May 13, two calls were received reporting bodies could be seen in the sea in Brighton.
"One body appeared lifeless and had been washed up on the shore. It was windy and the sea was particularly rough."
Coroner's conclusion
Senior Coroner Penelope Schofield told Brighton Coroner's Court: "I will record in respect for each of them that on May they entered the sea at West Beach, Brighton to end their lives.
"They could not swim and the conditions were adverse."
