A man has been charged after a 17-year-old girl was stabbed in the neck in broad daylight in Brierfield, Lancashire. Lancashire Constabulary provided an update on Sunday, two days after the incident on Wood Street.
Incident Details
Police were called to Wood Street at 3:06 pm on June 12, where they found a teenage girl with a stab wound to the neck. She was taken to hospital but her injuries were not life-threatening. She has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
In a statement, police said: 'She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries were not life-threatening and she has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.'
Arrest and Charge
A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder. On Sunday, police confirmed he had been charged. The suspect, Junaid Nawaz, 30, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield, who is British-born of Pakistani heritage, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court on June 15.
Police Appeal
Extra patrols are in place in the area, and police are appealing for anyone with information or footage to come forward. Detective Inspector Gareth Jones said: 'This was a frightening incident for the victim and the local community. We are conducting thorough inquiries and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact us.'
