Police found him on Maerdy Mountain on September 22. He was hypothermic, caught in a fence, and had barbed wire wrapped around his leg, the inquest heard.

He was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for treatment. Despite receiving care, he died on October 1.

A hospital consultant gave the cause of death as compartment syndrome secondary to leg compression, pneumonia and acute renal failure, along with dementia and chronic kidney disease.
