A fundraising appeal has been launched to cover funeral costs for three sisters whose bodies were recovered off Brighton beach earlier this month. The women have been identified as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, from the Uxbridge area of London.
Emergency services were called at around 5.45am on May 13 after concerns were raised for a person's welfare. Three bodies were subsequently pulled from the water near Madeira Drive. Sussex Police have said there is no evidence of criminality or third-party involvement, but a full investigation is underway.
A GoFundMe page, set up by Adesoji Adetoro on behalf of his brother Joseph, the sisters' father, aims to raise £18,000 for funeral expenses. In a statement, Joseph described his daughters as his "joy and strength" and said the bond they shared is "death can never take away."
As of Wednesday, more than £3,000 had been donated. The fundraiser organiser wrote: "No parent should ever have to bury their child, let alone all three. As a family, we simply want to give the girls the loving and dignified farewell they deserve."
Sussex Police are reviewing hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and conducting house-to-house inquiries to trace the sisters' last movements. Chief Superintendent Adam Hays said the force "will leave no stone unturned" in understanding what led to the tragedy.
Brighton and Hove City Council leader Bella Sankey expressed condolences, stating: "To learn the women were sisters makes this troubling situation even more heartbreaking. Brighton & Hove is grieving too."
