Police have received more than 40 calls following a fresh appeal in the 20-year-old murder case of Victoria Hall, generating new lines of inquiry. The 17-year-old from Trimley St Mary, Suffolk, vanished on 19 September 1999 after a night out at the Bandbox nightclub in Felixstowe.
Victoria, known as Vicky, left the club with her friend Gemma Algar at about 01:00 BST. They walked two miles home, stopping at a takeaway, and parted ways near Faulkeners Way at 02:30 BST. Gemma heard a scream but thought nothing of it. When Victoria failed to return home, a major missing persons inquiry was launched.
Her naked body was discovered in a water-filled ditch in Creeting St Peter, near Stowmarket, 25 miles away, on 24 September. Despite a trial in 2001 where a businessman was cleared of murder, the killer has never been found.
As part of the renewed investigation, police released details of items belonging to Victoria for the first time, along with CCTV footage showing people visiting the area where her body was found. Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Millar said the public response had been excellent, with over 40 calls generating new lines of inquiry. She added that it was great news for the investigation and Victoria's family that new information was still coming forward 20 years on.
