Baby girl who died in Staffordshire woodland named by police

Three-month-old Lacey May Oxford has been formally named by Staffordshire Police after she died in woodland in Staffordshire in early September. The force said her death is still being treated as unexplained while enquiries continue.

Incident details

Officers were called to land off Strawberry Lane in the Great Wyrley area at 8.45am on September 5 by paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service, who were responding to a report of a baby in cardiac arrest. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrests and bail

Four people were previously arrested on suspicion of murder: a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from south Staffordshire, a 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton, and an 18-year-old man from Walsall. All four remain on conditional bail, police confirmed in their latest statement.

Police statement

In a statement, Staffordshire Police said: "A child who tragically died in Great Wyrley can now be named as three-month-old Lacey May Oxford. We were called by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service, who were responding to a report of a child in cardiac arrest, at 8.45am on Saturday 5 September.

"Sadly, Lacey was later pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have been working hard to investigate the circumstances of Lacey’s death, which is still being treated as unexplained.

"All four people who were previously arrested in connection with the investigation remain on conditional police bail at this time.

"Our enquiries are continuing and we will continue to provide updates on this investigation when we are able to do so."
