Temporary Closure for Port Talbot Road in July

A busy road in Port Talbot is set for temporary closure from July 2026 to allow for civil engineering and highway maintenance works. The A4241 Harbour Way, near Oakwood Road, will experience intermittent closures expected to last up to four months.

Traffic Order Details

A public notice confirms a traffic order will come into effect on July 6, 2026, and remain in force for a maximum of 18 months or until works are completed, whichever is sooner. However, it is estimated that the works will take four months to complete with intermittent road closures.

The order states: “The order is necessary to enable the highway authority’s operatives to carry out civil engineering works and highway maintenance works in the road.”

Closure and Diversion Route

Specifically, the A4241 Harbour Way East and West Bound Lanes will be closed from the junction of Oakwood Road in a westerly direction for a distance of 400 metres along its length.

The alternative route for vehicular traffic is via the unaffected section of Harbour Way, Harbourside Road, A48 Heilbronn Way, Talbot Road, Commercial Road, and Margam Road. Access for emergency services and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works.

Impact on Commuters

Motorists using Harbour Way, a key route in Port Talbot, should expect delays and plan alternative routes during the closure period. The four-month timeline means the works could extend into November 2026 if they proceed as scheduled.
