Resurfacing work has been completed on Clyde Valley Avenue in the North Lodge area of Motherwell, addressing a road surface that had been in a sub-optimal condition for years. The carriageway was added to the council’s annual resurfacing programme for the 2026/27 financial year to tackle its unacceptable state.
Full Length of Road Resurfaced
The resurfacing covered the entirety of the long road at Clyde Valley Avenue. The top section of the road shares a junction with North Lodge Avenue, while the bottom part adjoins Harvest Drive and Camp Road.
Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig Conservative councillor Nathan Wilson, who had persistently lobbied for the repairs, said: “I have continually made representation to the council to highlight the poor condition of the roads and pavements in North Lodge and that major repair work was needed. The road at Clyde Valley Avenue had been in a long-standing derisory state with an uneven surface, cracks and potholes on the carriageway.”
Years of Campaigning
Wilson specifically pointed out the dire condition of Clyde Valley Avenue to the council in October 2024, calling for resurfacing. He expressed delight that the scheme has now been completed, covering the full length of the road. Since carriageway resurfacing was finished on Catherine Street in March 2023, numerous road and pavement repair jobs have been carried out in North Lodge, including at Adele Street, Findlay Street, Harvest Drive, Leven Street and Manse Road.
“It is fantastic that Clyde Valley Avenue is now on the list of completed resurfacing programmes in the local area,” Wilson added. “A significant amount of work has taken place in just over three years to restore large parts of the road and footway network in this part of Motherwell.”
