National Highways reports the closure affects the stretch between J5 and J6, with current delays of 30 minutes and 3 miles of congestion on approach. The road is closed across all junctions, and trapped traffic is being diverted off at J5.

The closure spans from J3 A34 Kingsway to J7 A56 Chester Road (Stretford), according to traffic data company Inrix. Congestion extends to just after J1 (Stockport Pyramid), with onlookers slowing traffic on the opposite carriageway. The A5103 Princess Parkway is also stationary northbound on approach to J5.
