Hidden along the Welsh coast is a breathtaking sea cave that looks as if it were lifted straight from a magical fairytale. Known as the Witch's Cauldron, the natural attraction is a collapsed sea cave where the Atlantic Ocean surges through tunnels and into a huge natural pool.
Glowing waters and curious seals
According to UK Hidden Gems, the water can appear to change colour depending on the light, shifting from deep green to an almost glowing turquoise blue. Visitors exploring the cave at the right time may even spot seals swimming inside. The UK Hidden Gems App shared a video of the location on TikTok, showcasing the dramatic cavern and its strikingly blue waters.
In the clip, it explained: "Welcome to the Witch's Cauldron... It's a collapsed sea cave where the Atlantic surges through tunnels into a giant pool." The dramatic change in conditions means the cave can offer a completely different experience depending on when it is visited.
Tide-dependent spectacle
At high tide, the Atlantic waves force their way through the tunnels, creating a powerful spectacle as the water crashes against the rocks and echoes around the cavern. But as the tide retreats, the water becomes calmer, allowing visitors to potentially catch a glimpse of seals making their way through the pool.
The Witch's Cauldron is found along the Pembrokeshire coast near Ceibwr Bay and has become a popular destination for those looking to discover some of Wales' lesser-known natural wonders. The location is particularly striking because of the contrast between the rugged cliffs surrounding it and the vivid water inside the collapsed cave.
Visitor reactions and nearby attractions
Commenting on the TikTok video, one user said: "Looks magical." Another user added: "Keep it hidden." A third user said: "It’s a tourist attraction, silly."
Access to the Witch's Cauldron is typically via the coast path walk from Ceibwr Bay, following the clifftop from east to west. Be careful when you're walking because getting cliff edges can be hazardous. People often visit it as a short add-on to a walk, taking in Ceibwr’s dramatic cliff scenery and viewpoints.
Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park viewpoint area (further north towards Cardigan) provides coastal scenery and wildlife watching. Alternatively, you can visit Poppit Sands nearby. This big sandy beach, near St Dogmaels/Cardigan, is popular with families and dog walkers alike. There's also St Dogmaels Abbey, near Cardigan, which provides atmospheric ruins and is a good quick stop if you’re doing the coast-and-town combo. There are plenty of food options, such as independent cafes and pubs, in the area too.
