Ruben Chorlton-Owen, a 25-year-old social media influencer from North Wales, was left 'floored' by the dramatically cheaper food prices in Tenerife compared to what he pays back home. He shared his holiday experience with his 100,000 Instagram followers after visiting Playa de las Americas with his girlfriend for a week-long break.
Four-Course Meal for €13.95
At Savoy Restaurant, the couple enjoyed a set menu for just €13.95 (£11.93), which included four courses: starters, mains with fillet steak, desserts, and Chinese dishes. In contrast, Ruben noted that he had previously paid £23 for a single chicken chorizo linguine in the UK — nearly double the price of their entire Tenerife meal.
"The difference was huge," he said. "A three-course meal in Tenerife cost less than what I'd often pay for a single main course in the UK."
Quality and Value Praised
Ruben praised the consistently excellent food quality, generous portions, and friendly service across all the restaurants they visited. He described it as "one of the best-value holidays" he has had, with affordable breakfasts, coffees, drinks, and evening meals.
Advice for Future Visitors
The North Wales man advised future visitors to explore beyond their hotels and try local restaurants rather than sticking to tourist hotspots. "Compare menus before choosing somewhere to eat because there are some fantastic deals available," he recommended.
