A British tourist has revealed the chaotic scenes at a hotel in Spain, where guests fought over sun loungers from 6am. Edward Lawton, 58, from Wesham, Lancashire, was staying at the adults-only Globales Santa Lucia Hotel in Mallorca when he documented the scramble for poolside beds.
Lawton said he did not take part in the sunbed wars himself. Instead, he watched from the sidelines and posted updates on social media, describing the mornings as "carnage".
Doors open at 8am
In footage taken on August 19, Lawton said every bed was claimed within five minutes of the pool area opening. He described the scene as "absolute mayhem", with guests running as soon as the doors opened on a timer.
"They're throwing their belongings onto them, there's pushing and shoving, and they're just grabbing everything. It's very, very competitive," he said.
Guests queue from dawn
Lawton said people queued from the crack of dawn with their bags and pots of coffee, just to secure a sunbed. "I couldn't believe that people are queuing up on their holidays from 6am in the morning, with their bags," he added.
He called on the hotel to adopt a better policy, saying the situation was "absolutely horrendous". The M.E.N. has approached Globales Santa Lucia Hotel for a comment.
