Plans for three holiday glamping pods have been approved at a site on Pierhill Farm, Annbank.
The applicant is Lewis Crawford, from Pierhill Farm, with Stairhill Architecture Ltd acting as agent in the proposals.
Pod design and layout
A description of the proposal said: “Planning permission is sought for the siting of three glamping pods and associated development.
“The proposed pods are to be positioned in a linear manner diagonally within the site and orientated in a south westerly direction. The proposed pods are single storey curved roof structures with an attached single storey covered and enclosed deck forming an outdoor living area, with an additional outdoor seating area.”
According to the blueprints, each pod and attached accommodation is to have an approximate footprint of 105sq metres, with each pod measuring eight metres by four metres, and each containing one bedroom, kitchen bathroom and living accommodation. The pods and attached enclosures are to be finished in timber. Vehicular access will be formed within the south-western corner of the site so as to provide for shared off-road parking for up to four vehicles.
Occupancy and operation
Council papers also state that the pods are intended to accommodate a maximum of two persons per unit, the facility shall operate on a year-round basis and that the development shall be owned and operated by the house and cottage at Pierhill, which is under the ownership of the applicant and their family.
Approval and local impact
In approving the proposals, with conditions, council papers say: “There are no concerns regarding the impact of the development on the setting of the rural area, and no amenity concerns associated with the proposals, due to the development being remotely located away from properties outwith the ownership of the applicant.
“The application site is located within a rural area and guests of the accommodation will have easy access to services and amenities located within nearby villages and towns. It is not unreasonable to assume that guests of the STL will use such services and amenities and thus increase spend within the local area.”
