Saltburn-by-the-Sea in North Yorkshire has been named the UK's top holiday hotspot for this summer, according to Trainline. The rail operator analysed booking data and found that the classic seaside town saw a 133% increase in passenger bookings for the first week of the school holidays.
Why Saltburn stands out
Saltburn is known for its Victorian Pier, which stretches 600ft across the beach and is Yorkshire's last remaining pleasure pier. The Saltburn Cliff Tramway, the oldest water-balanced funicular still in operation in the UK, connects the town to the pier. A single adult fare costs £1.10, children's tickets are 60p, and children under three travel free.
The town also offers a sandy beach, Valley Gardens with a tearoom, and amusement arcades. Seaview Restaurant and Oscar's Fish & Chips provide seaside dining options.
