Whitley Bay location and attractions

Whitley Bay is home to a Blue Flag beach, independent shops and eateries, plus a cinema, playhouse, ice rink, markets, food festivals and parades throughout the year. The walk from Whitley Bay beach down to Cullercoats Bay, then on to Long Sands and King Edwards in Tynemouth, is a must, with Tynemouth Priory and Castle and Tynemouth Market at the other end.

Less than an hour in the car gets drivers to the heart of Northumberland National Park, where they will be surrounded by ancient ruins and wildlife, as well as some of the darkest skies in Europe for stargazing. Whitley Bay is on the Tyne and Wear Metro line, with Newcastle city centre only half an hour away by Metro.

Guest reviews and facilities

One recent visitor said: "Another great weekend at my favourite place. Great fun and entertainment, staff always go above and beyond. [...] Adults had the best time and so did the teenagers, joined in the dancing and karaoke."

Another praised: "Had a great time, just keep coming back here, love it. All amenities are great, staff are a credit to the site, especially Dale on security. [...] Plenty to do outside the park including St Mary's lighthouse, the beaches and Spanish City. We will be back again."

And a third echoed: "This is our fifth year in a row - says it all. Beautifully situated. Every day we take the short walk from the park entrance to the lighthouse stop off at the van in the car park for an ice cream and on the way back for a coffee. It's stunning and so peaceful."

Not everyone was impressed, however, with one guest feeding back: "Only been unwilling to give five stars because the shop on site is very limited stock and opening hours vary depending upon staff availability. The restaurant seems expensive for what you get." Meanwhile, someone else wrote in a five-star review: "Just returned from a nice break. Staff are always lovely, the park was very tidy and the caravan was really clean on arrival. Well done Whitley Bay team."
