British holidaymakers could soon have a brand-new Mediterranean escape on their summer radar thanks to a major change announced by Jet2. The airline is set to launch flights and package holidays to the Greek island of Thassos for the first time from summer 2027.
New Routes and Airports
Jet2 confirmed that flights will operate via Kavala International Airport from three UK bases: Birmingham, Manchester, and London Stansted. This addition means Jet2 will now serve 16 Greek airports, more than any other UK carrier, according to the airline.
Birmingham Airport will offer weekly Wednesday services from May 12 to September 29, 2027. Manchester will run twice-weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays, while London Stansted will operate weekly Tuesday departures.
Partnership and Tourism Boost
The new partnership between Jet2 and the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace aims to boost visitor numbers to Thassos. Officials describe the island as one of Greece’s best kept secrets, known for its beaches and family-friendly appeal.
Christodoulos Topsidis, Regional Governor, said: “We are particularly pleased with our cooperation with Jet2, as it represents a significant recognition of the momentum that the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has developed on the international tourism map.” He added that improved air connectivity would “open new pathways” for tourism growth.
Package Details and Protection
Jet2 says customers booking through Jet2holidays will benefit from ATOL-protected packages. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, ATOL protection ensures travellers are financially covered if a travel company ceases trading.
Packages will include return transfers, a 22kg baggage allowance, and a £60 per person deposit. The company has also been named a Which? Recommended Provider for 11 consecutive years.
Jacob Bramley, General Manager at Jet2, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace to promote the stunning island of Thassos, which is our newest destination.” He explained how the company is “very excited about launching to this fantastic brand-new destination.”
Growing Demand for Greek Holidays
The expansion comes as demand for Greek holidays continues to surge among UK travellers. Data from ABTA shows Greece consistently ranks among the top destinations for British tourists. Industry experts say new routes like this highlight how airlines are diversifying beyond traditional hotspots. With flights set to begin in 2027, UK travellers could soon have even more choice when planning their next summer getaway.
