How to speed through airport security at Liverpool and Manchester
How to speed through security at Liverpool and Manchester airports

Passengers flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) and Manchester Airport can speed through security queues this winter by following specific advice from the airports, including packing liquids correctly and using FastTrack lanes.

Security tips for Liverpool John Lennon Airport

LJLA advises passengers to ensure all items, including belts and pocket contents, are placed in their bags before approaching security. Coats, hats, scarves, heeled shoes, and boots should be removed beforehand.

Since introducing Next Generation Security lanes last year, passengers no longer need to take liquids and electronics out of hand luggage at Liverpool. However, the 100ml per container limit remains. The airport states: "Exceptions are made for medication (with prescription label) and baby food. For medication and baby food over 100ml, they must be removed from your hand luggage prior to x-ray screening."

To avoid delays, food and powders should be packed in hold luggage. If carried in hand luggage, extra time may be needed for inspection.

Manchester Airport security procedures

At Manchester Airport, liquids under 100ml can remain in hand luggage during security searches. The airport recommends packing liquids in hold luggage where possible due to the limit.

Security at Manchester has improved with upgraded scanners and a two-terminal layout. FastTrack or TimeSlot lanes are the fastest options, available in both terminals.

FastTrack starts at £5.49 per person, allowing arrival up to three hours before the flight. TimeSlot is free or up to £4.99 per person, requiring passengers to select a preferred security entry time.

Passengers should check the rules at their return airport, as some still require liquids to be removed from bags.
