Gran Canaria has been named the top autumn getaway for Brits by travel experts at TUI, offering average temperatures of 23C in November and approximately seven hours of daily sunshine. The island typically sees only around three days of rainfall throughout the month, making it an appealing escape from the British climate.
Canary Islands Dominate the Rankings
Tenerife took second place, while the Greek island of Rhodes came third. Gran Canaria remains an easy option from Liverpool, with direct flights from John Lennon Airport operated by easyJet and Jet2. TUI also offers package holidays from £491 per person for travel in late November or early December.
Samantha Costi, a Senior Retail Manager at TUI, said that "Gran Canaria and Tenerife emerged as the strongest options for late-autumn sunshine in November", adding that the islands "really come into their own in November", especially Gran Canaria, which offers "warm, sunny days, comfortable temperatures for exploring and sea temperatures that still make time by the beach appealing".
Beyond the Beach
The island's year-round popularity means many shops, restaurants, and bars remain open in hotspots such as Las Palmas, providing plenty of atmosphere even during quieter months. November has no school holiday dates, so resorts and beaches tend to be less crowded.
The warm weather also suits cycling and hiking trails across the island, which can be more challenging during summer heatwaves. Speaking about Gran Canaria's offerings, Samantha added: "There is plenty to do beyond the beach too. Visitors can explore the Maspalomas dunes, wander around colourful Puerto de Mogán, discover traditional towns such as Tejeda and Teror, or head into the island's highlands for walking and sightseeing."
