Flight Attendant Warns Against Drinking Coffee on Planes

A flight attendant has urged passengers to avoid drinking coffee on planes, citing concerns over hygiene. Kevin, who posts on TikTok as @ichbinvin, shared what he calls 'dirty little secrets' of the aviation industry, including a long-standing rumour about hot drinks.

According to a pilot on Reddit, water tanks on commercial jets are 'rarely if ever cleaned', and this water is used to make coffee. Kevin echoed this, calling plane coffee 'disgusting', but his main concern is how coffee pots are cleaned. He claims flight attendants are instructed to empty coffee pots into the toilet rather than drains, and that the pots are rarely cleaned properly.

Kevin advises passengers to 'get to the airport 10 minutes earlier and buy a coffee in the terminal' instead of risking the coffee on board. He also noted that the water tank issue is 'the least of your concern' compared to the pot cleaning method.

Another flight attendant, Barbie, 29, shared the three dirtiest parts of a plane on TikTok: the toilet floor, tray tables, and seat pockets. She warned that tray tables may not be cleaned between flights and could have been used for resting feet or heads.

Airlines do send cleaners between flights, but tight schedules often limit deep cleaning. Passengers concerned about germs are advised to be cautious with these areas.
