Searches for Cape Verde holidays have increased by 265% following the African nation's football achievements this summer, according to Expedia data.
The archipelago of 10 volcanic islands, home to 491,233 people, captured global attention through its World Cup performance. Searches for island breaks overall rose 55% year-on-year.

Cape Verde features on Expedia's 2026 Island Hot List, which highlights trending islands worldwide. Each destination is categorised by theme, with Cape Verde named 'best ultimate football-inspired island'.
Melanie Fish, travel expert and spokesperson, said: "The list was finalised until one destination generated so much buzz from football fans that we had to give them an award of their own."
Other top islands
St. Lucia topped the list for romantic getaways, while Porto Santo in Madeira, Portugal, was favoured for wellness and relaxation. Praslin in Seychelles suits nature lovers, and Syros in Greece leads for gastronomy. Palawan in Philippines excels for natural wonders, and Culebra in Puerto Rico tops for water adventures.
Lofoten Islands in Norway earned a spot for Arctic expeditions, Sanibel Island in Florida for family escapes, Phu Quoc in Vietnam for affordable luxury, and Fiji for multi-generational value.
Fish added: "Islands don't just satisfy the urge to get away; they can also be one of the smartest holiday values."
