British expat Caitlin Camp, originally from Manchester, shared her experience of a three-course meal at the Savoy restaurant in Tenerife, where the price left her astonished. The meal, advertised as €12.95 (£11), was part of a popular deal that often goes viral on social media for its affordability.
Mixed Reactions to the Food
In a video posted to social media, Camp documented the outing with her husband Mattie and a friend. The group ordered from both the standard and Oriental menus. Starters included garlic bread for the women and hot and spicy soup for Mattie. Mains featured Spaghetti Bolognese for the women and egg fried rice with a curry dish for Mattie. Desserts included chocolate cake, cheesecake, and ice cream.
Camp’s first impression was neutral: “First impressions? It's not terrible. It's very much you get what you pay for.” However, the chocolate cake did not meet her expectations: “No, this isn't for me. I'm not a fan of this.” Mattie noted the cheesecake was “lukewarm” rather than cold.
Total Cost and Public Reaction
For three three-course meals, a kids' meal, and drinks, the total came to €72.87 (£61.97). Despite mixed reviews of the food, commenters praised the value. One wrote: “Went there last year was €10.95 I think gone up a bit, 3 course for €12 is an absolute steal. And the foods not even that bad.” Another said: “We always come here whenever we come to Tenerife. The food is okay and the staff are lovely.”
The video has sparked discussion about affordable dining in Tenerife, with many defending the restaurant’s quality for the price.
