Best value Canary Island for Brits this winter: Tenerife

Tenerife has been named the best-value Canary Island for British holidaymakers seeking winter sun in 2026, according to new research from travel experts at the Post Office. The island offers November temperatures of around 24C, and flights from the UK can be found from £26 each way.

Post Office winter sun costs barometer

The Post Office's 'winter sun costs barometer' compared prices in holiday hotspots across several factors, including the cost of a cup of coffee, a three-course meal with house wine, a local beer, and other food and drink items. Tenerife came eighth in the overall global rankings, making it the top Canary Island, followed by Lanzarote in 11th place overall.

"Tenerife remains a popular choice for winter sun holidays," the team behind the study explained. "It's known for its warm weather, volcanic scenery and range of attractions."

What Tenerife offers visitors

"Visitors can explore Mount Teide National Park, take a whale or dolphin-watching trip, or relax on the island's beaches. You'll also find lots of resorts, restaurants and family-friendly activities. Tenerife offers a good mix of sunshine, convenience and value. It's also one of the cheapest European destinations in this year's report," the study team added.

While the report focused on food and drink costs while on holiday, it did not factor in the price of flights or package holidays to reach the destination. However, when school holidays are not in the mix, such as in November or early December, deals can be found. According to Skyscanner, cheap flights from the UK to Tenerife start from £26 each way, excluding extra hand luggage, while TUI, easyJet Holidays, Loveholidays and On the Beach all offer tempting last-minute deals.

Flight time and wider rankings

With a flight time of approximately four hours from most UK airports, Tenerife can be an ideal destination for those who want a break but do not have the annual leave for a full week or two away.

In the overall European rankings, Portugal's Algarve came out as the winner for best-value winter sun holiday, placing sixth overall, followed by Spain's Costa del Sol in seventh place. The title of overall best-value holiday went to South Africa's Cape Town, which boasted some of the lowest average prices, including for local beer and three-course meals.
