Red Kite Touring and Lodge Park, an adult-only campsite near Llanidloes, has been named the best in Wales at the AA 2026-27 Caravan & Camping Awards. Inspectors praised the site for its cleanliness and "memorable views".
Set in 20 acres of Welsh countryside
The site sits within 20 acres of landscapes with 360-degree views of the Welsh countryside in the Clywedog Valley. It has been operating for just over a decade, with the owners turning "a big muddy hill into a fully functional touring park ready for the 2016 season", according to their website.
Red Kite offers 62 fully serviced pitches suitable for caravans and motorhomes, along with luxury lodges that are available to purchase rather than book. The site also includes wild areas and two fishing lakes that provide a habitat for indigenous flora and fauna.
AA inspectors' praise
The award was presented at the AA 2026-27 Caravan & Camping Awards, which recognise exceptional sites setting the standard for outdoor accommodation across the UK. Inspectors described the site as "impressive" and "well managed and cared for by hands-on owners", adding that they "have not seen cleanliness levels to the standard anywhere else. Amazing."
This year's ceremony celebrated 13 sites across the country, selected by AA inspectors for their quality and commitment to delivering an exceptional experience. Categories included three national winners, five English regional winners, and awards for AA Glamping Site of the Year, AA Sustainable Park of the Year and AA Small Campsite of the Year.
Other Welsh winner
Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Media, said: "Travellers today are choosing to discover more of what we have on our doorstep, and the caravan and camping sector is very much at the heart of that story. This year's award winners are a testament to the passion, investment and commitment to quality that is driving the sector forward, offering British holidaymakers exceptional experiences that are truly memorable. Congratulations to all of this year's winners and their outstanding teams."
