A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck southern Spain on 2 August, with the epicentre in the town of Librilla, Murcia. The National Geographic Institute (IGN) recorded the tremor at 11.59am at a depth of around 3 miles, with Murcia about 18 miles away.
The earthquake shook neighbouring areas including Alicante, a popular destination for British tourists who also head to nearby Benidorm, and Albacete.
Emergency services flooded with calls
Emergency services 112 wrote on X: "The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre for the Region of Murcia has received more than 80 calls (...) at various points in the region. So far, no personal or material damage has been reported."
The earthquake comes after Naples, Italy, was struck by a major quake that damaged buildings, cars and saw around 20 people injured.
