Taco Bell is giving its iconic Mexican Pizza a fresh twist with the introduction of the Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza. The new version replaces the traditional seasoned beef with slow-roasted chicken, marking the first time the chain has altered the protein in the dish since its launch in 1985.
The Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza retains the same refried beans and cheese blend as the original, but adds a green chile sauce and is topped with shredded purple cabbage and pico de gallo. It will be served with a packet of Taco Bell's new Jalapeño Citrus Salsa Sauce, made with red jalapeños and guajillo chiles for a sweet and spicy flavour.
The limited-time offering launches in US restaurants on May 21, priced at $6.49. Taco Bell Rewards Members can order it early via the company's app from May 19. Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, said: 'The Mexican Pizza is iconic for a reason... we didn't want to reinvent it, we wanted to build on it.'
The Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza is part of a broader menu refresh revealed at Taco Bell's Live Más Live event in March. Other upcoming items include Mexican Pizza Empanadas, Strawberry & Cream Mexican Pizza Bites, Cheesy G Sliders, Queso Cracked Cantina Bowl, and Firecracker Burrito. Dessert options will feature Crème Brûlée Crunchwrap Slider, Chocolate Fudge and Caramel Empanadas, and a Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada.
