Manchester United have reportedly made a transfer offer to sign Paraguay and San Lorenzo goalkeeper Orlando Gill.
World Cup Heroics
Gill enhanced his reputation with a series of excellent performances at this summer's World Cup, playing every minute as Paraguay knocked out Germany before losing to France in the last 16. He is best remembered for his heroic penalty-shootout display in the round of 32, denying both Kai Havertz and Nick Woltemade from the spot. After clean sheets against Turkey and Australia in Group D, Gill finished with the most saves of any goalkeeper at the tournament – 28 stops across five matches.
Transfer Speculation
Gill's future has been the subject of intense speculation, and he recently said: 'Offers are arriving but until something is concrete I'm going to keep thinking about San Lorenzo. I still have a contract with San Lorenzo. If nothing official happens, my head is at San Lorenzo.' According to DSports Radio, Gill's agent confirmed a 'bombshell' offer worth around $8 million (£6m) had been put forward by United. The report adds that while San Lorenzo have not received an official proposal, they are ready to 'analyse the situation' should a formal bid arrive. Gill's contract runs through to the end of 2027.
Interest from Other Clubs
Olympiakos, Aston Villa, Ipswich, Torino, Fiorentina, Feyenoord and Bayern Munich have also been linked with the 6 ft 6 in goalkeeper in recent weeks. United already signed Karl Darlow on a free transfer, but Gill would join as back-up for number one Lammens. Andre Onana, whom Lammens replaced, rejoined Trabzonspor on a season-long loan, while Altay Bayindir is expected to depart permanently, with Besiktas weighing up a move.
