Manchester United have been handed a welcome £60m transfer boost as Alex Scott rejected a new contract offer from Bournemouth. The 22-year-old midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and his refusal to extend terms has increased the likelihood of an exit.
Scott rejects new deal amid United interest
According to Sky Sports, Scott is not currently willing to accept Bournemouth's fresh contract proposal, with his camp rejecting the offer. The Cherries had hoped to secure his long-term future with a deal running until 2028, but the lack of progress has opened the door for a potential summer move.
Scott is expected to cost in the region of £60m, which is considered relatively cheap compared to recent big-money moves for players like Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Morgan Rogers, all of whom commanded triple-figure fees this summer.
United's midfield revamp under Carrick
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has already added Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to his midfield this summer, but he is looking for a third addition in the engine room. Scott appears to be a concrete option, alongside AS Roma's Manu Kone.
Arsenal have also been linked with both players, but their priority target appears to be Bruno Guimaraes. This could give United a free run at signing either Scott or Kone, especially given their openness to potential summer moves.
Other midfield targets and competition
Bournemouth teammate Tyler Adams has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but interest in Brighton's Carlos Baleba has cooled. Meanwhile, Chelsea hold an interest in Scott, with the future of Enzo Fernandez again up for debate following his World Cup performances.
Kone, who made four starts for France at the World Cup, often played at the expense of former United target Aurelien Tchouameni, who is expected to sign a new contract with Real Madrid.
Attack plans on hold amid Rashford uncertainty
Potential attacking additions are also being considered, with Crysencio Summerville and Iliman Ndiaye as targets. However, any formal pursuit is currently on hold as Marcus Rashford's future plays a key role. The 28-year-old is set to be reintegrated into United's squad after loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona. Rashford wanted a permanent move to the latter, but that looks increasingly unlikely after Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi joined the club this summer.
United's pre-season has already started, with a fairly strong side beaten by Wrexham last week. They face Norwegian side Rosenberg next, followed by friendlies against Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
