Michael Carrick has sanctioned the departures of five first-team players at Manchester United as he enters his first transfer window as full-time manager. The exits are part of a major overhaul to make room for new signings.
Five players heading out
The players leaving are Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Andre Onana. Casemiro is expected to move to MLS, with Inter Miami and LA Galaxy linked. Hojlund made his loan at Napoli permanent after the Serie A club activated his £38million release clause. Onana extended his loan at Trabzonspor for another season. Malacia has yet to secure a new club and remains a free agent. Sancho has been linked with a return to Borussia Dortmund.
New arrivals and wage savings
Carrick has brought in Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow. Santos signed a five-year contract worth an initial £48m. Darlow arrived on a free transfer from Leeds. Tielemans was secured from Aston Villa for a £35m fee. Winger Tynan Thompson has also joined from Spurs. The departures clear £830,000-a-week from the wage bill.
United remain keen on Bournemouth's Alex Scott, who has turned down a fresh contract. The club faces competition from Arsenal and Chelsea for the midfielder.
