A Boeing 737 operated by Mexican airline Magnicharters crash-landed at Mexico City's international airport on Thursday after its landing gear collapsed, according to authorities. The incident occurred as the flight arrived from the Caribbean resort of Cancun, causing a scare but no physical injuries to the 139 passengers and five crew members on board.
Emergency crews rushed to the runway after the plane's left-side wheel strut buckled upon touchdown. Some passengers were treated for shock, but none required hospitalisation. The aircraft, which was about 27 years old according to online registries, sustained damage to its undercarriage.
One runway at the airport was closed for approximately four hours following the incident, though takeoffs and landings continued on other runways. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the landing gear failure, and an investigation is under way.
