Lucy Sharp and Mark Williams are bringing their Swansea cafe business back as a delivery service, nearly two years after an electrical fire destroyed their premises in Gorseinon.
Lucy's Best Bites opened on Gorseinon High Street in 2023, and the business was thriving before the fire in March 2025. Lucy described the cafe as "our dream, our passion, our future and a little piece of our hearts."
Watching the business burn
Lucy watched as the fire tore through the cafe. "I stood there and watched everything we had worked so hard for burn before my eyes," she said. "Overnight we lost everything. Our business. Our income. Our security. Our future as we knew it."
The emotional impact stayed with her long after the flames were gone. "The fear of losing everything again became something I carried with me every single day," she recalled.
Helping others before herself
In the aftermath, Lucy found herself helping other businesses grow rather than rebuilding her own. "I could see the potential in other people's dreams but I'd become frightened of believing in my own," she said.
She eventually realised: "If you keep giving away your own bricks to help everyone else build, eventually you'll have nothing left to rebuild yourself."
Relaunching from home
Lucy's Best Bites is returning as a home-based operation, with a breakfast and brunch menu available through JustEat and Deliveroo. Her popular Sunday lunches are also returning, with her daughter helping pack meals and her partner handling deliveries.
"We've brought our business back home to where it all began," Lucy said. "We may no longer have the café we once knew and loved, but the heart of Lucy's Best Bites is still beating stronger than ever."
The relaunched business holds a five-star food hygiene rating. Lucy said rebuilding the business has helped her trust herself again. "I'm not just rebuilding Lucy's Best Bites. I'm rebuilding myself," she said. "There is no stopping us now."
