JD Wetherspoon's first pub at Manchester Airport will open on September 8, according to the group's website. The Belle Vue, located in the Terminal 2 Departures lounge, will have more than 300 covers and a design inspired by the historic Manchester venue of the same name.
Name and Design Inspired by Manchester History
The pub is named after Belle Vue, the city's Victorian showground that once housed a pub, zoological gardens, and a stadium with greyhound racing and speedway. The Belle Vue Stadium was a social hub until its final event in 2020. The 338 sqm pub's design reflects Belle Vue's history and the sporting culture of the North West.
Airport Officials Comment on the New Venue
Stephen Turner, Chief Commercial Officer at Manchester Airport, said earlier this year: "We're very excited to be able to reveal more detail about Terminal 2's new JD Wetherspoon pub The Belle Vue, which will encapsulate the spirit and traditions of sporting entertainment in Manchester." He added that it is "fantastic to have yet another household name taking its place among those opening units in the terminal, as part of its £1.3bn transformation."
Richard Jackson, Retail Director at the airport, said: "From the outset of the transformation programme, we were keen to ensure we had a varied food and drink offering in the terminal with a strong sense of place and the Belle Vue will complement the existing bars and pubs in Terminal 2, expanding the choice on offer to passengers, with something to suit all tastes and budgets."
Terminal 2 Transformation Nears Completion
The Belle Vue will be the final major food and drink venue to open as part of the airport's decade-long Terminal 2 transformation, which has more than doubled the terminal's size and won a UNESCO-backed architecture award. Recent openings include the Great Northern Market Hall, a Fever Tree cocktail and Champagne bar, a Chanel store, and retail brands like Lego, Rituals, and Pandora. Other additions include Starbucks, Joe & The Juice, Upper Crust, Costa, Greggs, and WHSmith.
JD Wetherspoon is advertising job roles for the new pub, including bar and kitchen staff and delivery associates. The chain also has new venues scheduled to open in Crewe, Southampton, Bedford, St Andrews, London, and Edinburgh within the next three months.
