A popular Italian restaurant that closed earlier this year will be replaced by world-famous chain Wagamama. Signs have already been spotted outside the Silverlink building, indicating that locals won't have to wait long to enjoy ramen or katsu curry at the new venue.
Cassia at the Silverlink, located near the Odeon cinema, announced its closure on social media in the New Year. The post read: 'We are so sad to announce that unfortunately after an amazing 4 years here at Cassia our doors will be closing at the end of March. We would like to say thank you to our team for their passion and dedication. To all of our customers who have joined us over the years, thank you for your support, loyalty, and sharing your moments with us, bringing life into the restaurant. Cassia would not have been possible without you all.'
Many regulars were disappointed by the closure. However, Cassia is set to reopen in a new location, formerly Adriano's Fortuna on Gosforth High Street. Meanwhile, their successors at Silverlink have been confirmed as Wagamama, which already has branches in Newcastle city centre and at the Metrocentre. Billboards for the chain were spotted by visitors over the weekend.
A photo of the signs shared on a local Facebook group received a mixed reaction. One Cassia regular commented: 'Cassia is so much better, a shame.' Another wrote: 'Oh thanks, I will be going back to Cassia ASAP.' However, many expressed excitement, with one diner saying: 'Love this,' and another calling it their family's favourite place.
Recruitment for the new Wagamama is already underway, with adverts appearing online for a Front of House Manager. The new restaurant is expected to open soon, bringing a popular dining option to the Silverlink area.
