UK High Street Closures: B&M, TK Maxx, Co-op Shut

B&M, TK Maxx, Co-op and several Post Office counters are among the familiar names closing UK stores this November, with communities in Merseyside, Devon, Sussex, Cornwall and County Durham affected.

Soaring business rates and the continued shift of spending to the internet have forced a number of major brands to rethink their bricks-and-mortar presence. Discount chains such as B&M are among those shutting up shop, alongside several Post Office counters.

B&M closes Liverpool store

The retail unit on County Road in Walton, Liverpool, shut its doors on Friday, November 6, according to the Express. The retail giant closed the premises as part of a continuing review of its estate across the region.

B&M confirmed that existing employees are being transferred to other branches in the surrounding area. Shoppers are being directed to nearby stores on Great Homer Street and Utting Avenue.

Pasty house and TK Maxx shut

The Original Pasty House shut up shop on November 4, closing branches on West Street in Tavistock and in Plymouth city centre with immediate effect. The independent catering business buckled under mounting cost pressures, with Castle Hill Insolvency appointed to wind down the company. The Moorlander reported that in Plymouth, trade was hit even harder by the Armada Way regeneration scheme, which management said caused daily footfall and turnover to plummet.

TK Maxx is officially saying goodbye to its home of 25 years inside The Montague Centre in Worthing, West Sussex, this Sunday, November 8. The closure forms part of a town centre relocation, with the chain moving into the nearby former Poundland unit. The new store will open on Thursday, November 12 at 10am, safeguarding local jobs.

Post Office and Co-op closures

Post Office counters inside TG Jones stores will close this month as the group, managed by turnaround specialists Modella Capital, streamlines its retail portfolio. Three TG Jones sites that accommodate Post Office counters will close: Kingswood Bristol on November 18, 2026, Camborne Cornwall on November 23, 2026, and Darlington on November 28, 2026.

Residents in suburban Plymouth will say goodbye to their local Co-op as the convenience retailer pulls out of its Peverell Park Road premises. The Plymouth Herald reported that the property has been snapped up by an independent convenience operator.

Poundland is facing a raft of possible closures following reports that it lodged a High Court notice of intention to appoint administrators in late October. Discussions are ongoing with prospective rescue investors, including CDS Superstores (owners of Wilko and The Range). With around 600 stores and more than 10,500 retail jobs hanging in the balance, high street observers are preparing for additional closures as 2027 draws nearer.
