Tesco's little-known 16-item limit explained

Tesco customers may be stopped from buying more than a set number of certain products in a single transaction, under a little-known rule.

The retail giant has put measures in place to prevent shoppers from purchasing excessive quantities of identical products in one go, through a "maximum purchase quantity" policy.

How the limit works

The limit varies between products, but many items are currently capped at 16 per transaction, according to Tesco's website.

The supermarket states: "To ensure availability of all our products customers may be limited to a maximum number of items."

Checking stock before you shop

Shoppers can check stock levels at their nearest branch before setting off using the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard app, which also features a new AI-driven Meal Planner for selected customers.
