A Tesco shopper has spoken out after being "shocked" by the size of her £5.50 Finest festive chicken and bacon wrap, claiming the packaging was "misleading."
Elena Popescu, 34, bought the meal deal at a Tesco Express store in Sevenoaks, Kent, on October 30. She chose the festive wrap with gravy mayonnaise, boiled eggs as a snack, and a Starbucks coffee drink. When she opened her lunch, she found the wrap was split into two halves with a gap between them, which had been concealed by the cardboard packaging.
Customer says wrap was 'not filling'
Popescu, a retail worker and mum-of-one, said the wrap was "not filling" and that the packaging made the snack appear larger than it was. She said she felt "ripped off" by the supermarket.
"I was completely shocked. I am literally missing a piece of my wrap. I couldn't believe it, it was not filling at all and I was so disappointed," she said. "I feel like the Tesco packaging was misleading and I've been ripped off. For a premium meal deal, it tasted alright but it was a very small portion."
Shopper advises checking product weight
Popescu said the dip pot was placed in the middle of the wrap, not on top as she expected. She has not contacted Tesco to complain but said she will be more cautious about what she buys in future. She advised other shoppers to check the weight of wraps and sandwiches before purchasing.
"I would recommend others to now check the weight of the product so they can check how filling it's going to be and what you're going to get," she said.
Social media reaction and Tesco response
A video Popescu posted on social media gained more than 180,000 views, with many users also calling the packaging "misleading." Reviews on the Tesco website from previous years echoed similar complaints about the wrap's size.
Tesco confirmed the wrap is identical in size to other wraps in its Finest range. The supermarket acknowledged that because the product comes with a dip pot, a gap remains between the two wrap halves once the dip is removed. Tesco urged any shopper unhappy with a product to return it with a receipt for a full refund or replacement.
